Care Funding & Insurance
Most clients pay out of pocket when hiring a private RN. You have total control over how your care budget is utilized.
Veterans and their surviving spouses may be eligible for specific funds (such as the "Aid and Attendance" program) that can be used to pay for private home-based support.
Many policies include an "accelerated death benefit" or "long-term care rider" that allows policyholders to access funds early to pay for end-of-life or chronic care.
There are several community organizations and foundations available to those seeking financial assistance. Collaboration with these groups is a priority, offering guidance and facilitating the clinical documentation necessary for your care.
For some individuals, there are state programs that assist with in home care support. A case manager will work with you to confirm meeting the requirements to qualify and facilitate enrollment. (Online: Use the Iowa HHS Benefits Portal, Phone: Call 1-855-889-7985)
The cost of a private nurse can often be used as a medical tax deduction, which helps make professional care more affordable. To make sure you’re getting the best possible benefit for your specific situation, it’s a great idea to double-check with a tax advisor or CPA.
Some clients—specifically those who are age 65+, have a disability, or are a parent or caretaker—utilize 'spend down' requirements to meet the state’s Medicaid eligibility. This can allow you or a loved one to stay at home longer with 1-on-1 support while meeting financial requirements. If you're working with a caseworker or an elder law attorney, you might ask them if private nursing services could count toward your spend down.
At this time, Haven at Home Nursing does not bill Medicare or Medicaid directly. However, we are actively pursuing federal and state certifications to become a participating provider in the near future. We are committed to expanding our services to include these programs as part of our mission to provide accessible, high-quality care to our community.
While Haven at Home Nursing is a private-pay practice, many insurance plans offer out-of-network benefits that may reimburse a portion of your costs directly to you. Some Long Term Care insurance plans will allow for in home care as well. We recommend contacting your insurance carrier to verify your specific coverage for "Out-of-Network Private Duty Nursing." To assist you, any requested documentation available, including detailed invoices, to simplify your reimbursement process will be provided.
